Valens D Junior is a vitamin D supplement in the form of an oral spray, designed especially for children. It was formulated to enable easy and fun use as well as optimal absorption starting in the soft tissue of the mouth. The product delivers 500 IU of vitamin D3 per daily dose, containing 125 serving.
Due to its delicious strawberry flavor, fast and effective absorption, easy dosing and handy packaging, Valens D Junior offers a convenient alternative to capsules and tablets. The product contains xylitol and is sugar-free.
Valens D Junior contains natural form of vitamin D3, identical to the one synthesized by the human body. Clinically proven, Valens vitamin D oral sprays improve suboptimal vitamin D status.
Importance of vitamin D3
Vitamin D is a hormone, naturally synthesized in the human skin upon exposure to ultraviolet (UVB) radiation. Adequate vitamin D status has a key role in skeletal health. Its dominant role is to increase absorption and maintain concentrations of phosphorus and calcium, which is the crucial micronutrient for the development and maintenance of healthy bones. It also contributes to normal function of the immune system and normal muscle function.
Optimal exposure to sunlight triggers synthesis of vitamin D in the skin, however, synthesis may be insufficient due to low exposure to sun ray, especially during cold seasons. Numerous reports show high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency globally, which indicates importance of supplementation, especially during times of low exposure to sunlight – in autumn and winter.
Vitamin D deficiency
Due to vitamin D deficiency, there is no sufficient bone mineralization, which causes rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency is associated with a number of skeletal and non-skeletal disorders, including osteoporosis.
Only a few foods contain significant amounts of vitamin D (fish oil, various fish, especially herring, sardines and mackerel, liver and egg yolk), and therefore vitamin D supplementation is recommended, especially in older population, women after menopause, babies and children.
Vitamin D is extremely important in early childhood, when skeletal formation in the body is particularly rapid. Supplementation is recommended by paediatricians from birth throughout childhood, regardless of season. Recommended daily dose for babies is 400 IU, and up to 1000 IU for children from the age of 1.
Recommended dose of vitamin D supplementation vary depending on country, latitude and different health associations. Valens initiated a clinical study about treating suboptimal vitamin D status, using different Valens formulations, all containing 1000 mg of cholecalciferol, natural D3 from lanolin.
All tested formulations were proven to be efficient in improving suboptimal vitamin D status. The dosage of 1000 IU, however, might not be sufficient for maintaining optimal vitamin D status during winter in adults. Earlier beginning of supplementation or higher doses (2000 IU) of vitamin D might be needed for reaching optimal vitamin D status.
The study also confirmed high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in the winter season.
