Why is vitamin D supplementation important?
Vitamin D plays a very important role in the human body as it contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal function of the immune system. Numerous reports showed high prevalence of low vitamin D intake and vitamin D deficiency in Europe – particularly during the winter season, indicating the importance of vitamin D supplementation.
Can I obtain enough vitamin D without supplementation?
Vitamin D, also called the “sunshine vitamin”, is formed by the human body when exposed to sunlight (UVB). With sufficient exposure* to the sun’s rays in the summer, people in moderate climates have sufficient amounts of vitamin D. Unfortunately, different seasons come with different amounts of sunlight, which sometimes makes it impossible for us to meet our daily needs for this vitamin. Therefore, we must supplement it with an additional input, something that is also recommended by health professionals. As only a few foods are rich in vitamin D, supplementation in the form of dietary supplements is recommended.
